Miami Dade OCED Events Planned for CD Week:
On April 9, 2009 a proclamation will be presented to the Office of Community and Economic Development from Mayor Carlos Alvarez and Chairman Dennis C. Moss proclaiming April 12 through 18, 2009 as Community Development Week. Miami-Dade County takes great pride in participating in U.S. Housing and Urban Development’s Community Development Block Grant (CDBG) Program, which has had a significant impact upon Miami-Dade County through economic development, capital improvement, housing, public service, and historic preservation. Since 1975 the CDBG program has been providing local government with the resources necessary to meet the needs of persons of low-and moderate- income. The 2009 National Community Development (CD) Week will be celebrated from April 12-18, 2009. The week provides the opportunity for CDBG grantees to meet with their congressional members, showcase CDBG-funded projects and programs, and involve the local community, including local businesses, citizens, and community groups in the week-long celebration. CDBG funds continue to be used annually to assist thousands of residents of Miami-Dade County in cooperation with numerous community partners including, concerned citizens, neighborhood advisory committees, non-profit agencies, community based organizations, community development corporations, participating municipalities, and Miami-Dade County Departments, to provide assistance in every aspect of human service needs.
The goals of the CDBG program are to provide decent housing, a suitable living environment, and expanded economic opportunities for low-and moderate-income neighborhoods to have a positive impact on their lives.
